WHAT ARE THE POROSITY TYPES:
There are three types of hair porosity, which are determined by the structure of the hair's cuticle. Below we will discuss the different types and the best oils for those hair types.
High porosity hair requires heavier oils that will better hold onto the strands of your hair.
High porosity is hair that absorbs and loses moisture quickly, making it feel dry and prone to breakage. This is because the cuticle layer of the hair is raised or damaged, allowing moisture to pass through easily but not be retained.
The great thing about medium/normal porosity hair is that it can use both low and high porosity oils. Therefore, the type of oils you choose for your hair is completely dependent upon what works for you and your hair. If your hair is on the lower normal spectrum, try more oils associated with low porosity hair.
Medium porosity is hair with a looser cuticle structure that allows moisture to flow in and out of the hair shaft easily and retain it for a longer period of time. It's often considered the ideal porosity type because it's a balance between low and high porosity hair.
Low porosity hair requires lightweight oils that can be easily absorbed. Using heat with these oils will allow the cuticles to open and penetrate the hair. I recommend using our deep conditioning heat caps to stimulate absorption.
Low porosity is hair that has a tight cuticle layer that makes it difficult for the hair to absorb water and other substances.
Does Hair Porosity Matter?
Yes, in case it wasn’t obvious, your hair porosity is the KEY! This information will change how you choose products for your crown, as well as your styling practices.
Below I have left instructions for the porosity test. Do it! If you don’t have time for a porosity test, you can tell how well your hair is absorbing or resisting moisture by how it interacts with your products and water. Much like your curl pattern, you may have different porosities on your head, so when testing, try to get a few strands from different areas on the head. This could deepen your understanding of your hair and save you money on the trial and error rollercoaster of product buying.
HAIR POROSITY FLOAT TEST:
